Q7) Looking back at your prelim task, what have you learnt in the progression from that to the final poduct?
Here is my prelim....
Reflecting on my Prelim, this was the first time I had
actually used proper filming equipment and editing software such as Premier, so
looking back i was overall quite UN experienced
Progress in Planning and Research
My use of planning and research has improved tremendously
from the preliminary task to the film opening of ‘UNTAMED’. When planning for
the prelim task, it was kept very brief and did not go into much detail, for
example we only made one storyboard which was basic and didn't include specific
shots, locations, time etc. As a result from this poor shooting schedule we as
a group had some confusion with what sequence of the opening we had recorded
and what still needed to be done as it was not precis therefore we did not
really follow it. We spent a lot of time on figuring out the order of shots we
had filmed and what was still left to be done, meaning we had less time to edit
to a high professional quality. We also as a group did not do much research
into the genre and audience our type of film would have, which means we took a
risk that could have been accurate had we done the correct research and
analysis.
From the mistakes and brief planning of the preliminary i
was able to correct and prepare better for the UNTAMED opening as it would be
more accurate and reliable meaning we would be working to a strict schedule to
avoid the risk of uncertainties and loss of time. So when planning UNTAMED we
done lots of close detailed research into our genre and specific audience so we
knew exactly what it must include to capture out target audience. To plan for
filming we made a shooting schedule which included specific dates and times we
could all meet and where we would be filming and for how long, We used this
schedule as a guide to keep us on track. In comparison to the prelim this
worked out much more efficient and organised which meant we used our time
extremely wisely and always knew what we needed to do next making it a success.
Editing progression
Before taking media i had no experience or knowledge of how
to use Premier Pro at all, after helping edit the prelim task my navigation
around the software began to improve, however it was still fairly basic. In the
prelim task it was quite basic editing, just cutting clips and making sure they
all lined and were in the right place. For the opening sequence we had a
black/white filter edited on and music in the background which at the time
seemed really impressive as we had never been able to do this before. Although
looking back it could have been improved for our first proper attempt at
editing it was quite successful and we were overall happy with the outcome.
The comparison between editing on the prelim to editing
UNTAMED was quite a substantial difference, we added black cut clips to create
the effect of Aubrey being drunk we also had to make sure the clips smoothly
transitioned and that they lined up as it proved challenging when editing and
cutting out certain clips such as one when Aubrey was smiling and we had to cut
it out but make sure her face was exactly the same for the start of the next
shot. For the Film opening we also had to do titles which proved challenging as
we had to make sure they were on screen for the correct amount of time and clearly
visible from the background of the screen.
Overall progress
When i watch both the Prelim and the film opening its almost instantly visible the progress i have made, i feel that i have broadened my knowlwdge with technology and software which helps and come as a great advantage when approaching new tasks. From comparing the two i have also learnt the value and importance of a detailed thought out shooting schedule.
